Jose Alvarez is the General Director of Biological Diversity at Ministry of Environment in Peru, since more than 10 years ago.

He is a Biologist, specialized in conservation, community management of resources, and sustainable use of Amazonian biodiversity, and in planning and participatory management with Amazonian communities. Master of Science from the University of Louisiana in USA.

Jose was previously National Director of Strategy and Sustainability in Nature and Culture International, and has over 17 years of experience as researcher specialist in Amazonian biodiversity, natural resource management, promotion and management of protected areas at the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP).

He has also been involved in “Regional Program for the Conservation, Management and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in the Loreto Region” and in the Project “Support for the Conservation of Loreto”; and was advisor to the Commerce chamber of Indigenous Peoples in Peru.
