He has conducted ecological and environmental studies on peat swamp ecosystems, peat restoration and community assistance, peat mapping, community-based ecotourism development and peat ecosystems. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indonesia’s Gadjah Mada University, furthering his studies by pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees at Indonesia’s Bandung Institute of Technology and Japan’s Kyoto University. His work involves strengthening cooperation between universities and the research institutions, building an integrated peatland restoration model based on the hydrological unity of peatlands, developing peatland monitoring technology and innovations and expanding the network of research cooperation. He is involved in various research cooperation teams in Indonesia and internationally, which brings him directly into contact with communities living in peat swamp forest ecosystems where he has conducted ecological and environmental studies.
