Since 1990, Dr Hooijer worked in over 30 countries on studies of wetland functioning, carbon emissions, land subsidence and flood risk. In Southeast Asia, this included large scale assessments supporting peatland conservation and management, with Governments, plantation industries and NGOs. This has resulted in numerous policy papers and scientific publications.
